Description: The electrification indicators of the Lithuanian Railways infrastructure lag behind the EU average. Mostly widely used diesel traction locomotives and freight trains. The main stretch leading to Klaipeda port, through which almost two thirds of all railway traffic going on, is not electrified. Smart Continent experts has been hired the perform a feasibility study. The feasibility study has to answer to the question about the return on investment and to assess technological alternatives. The study is a foundation to ensure investments that are worth hundreds of millions by using European Union’s allocated investments.
