The TInnGO Project

European Commission, Horizon 2020

Project title: The TInnGO Project – Transport Innovation Gender Observatory.

Country: Europe wide.

Client: European Commission, Horizon 2020.

Year: 2018-2021.

Alliance partner involved: Smart Continent, Lithuania; Interactions, Ireland; Signosis, Belgium.

Description:

Women face higher risks and burdens than men in transport, due to unequal access to resources, education, job opportunities and entrenched socio-cultural norms.
In the TInnGO project (2018 – 2021), Interactions is collaborating with local authorities, academic partners and transport consultants across Europe to develop a framework and mechanisms for a sustainable game change in European transport using the transformative strategy of gender-sensitive smart mobility. The project will address gender related contemporary challenges in the transport ecosystem and women’s mobility needs, creating a route for Gender Sensitive Smart Mobility in European Transport, which considers diversity of different groups. A Pan European observatory for gender smart transport innovation will provide a nexus for data collection, analysis, dissemination of gender mainstreaming tools and open innovation. TInnGO will lead research into a new era and use the knowledge to achieve impacts on Social, Economic, Environmental and European ambitions of growth, wealth and innovation.
The Project:
TInnGO aims to combine existing tools and knowledge with new data, approaches and strategies in the following ways:
-using existing gender mainstreaming tools and research methods
-collecting existing mobility data and set new standards for the collection of socio-demographic mobility data, which enables women’s travel behaviour to be prioritized using intersectional analysis
-providing new datasets from which more equitable, fairer smart mobility can be developed, new resources to reduce gender gaps in transport, gender sensitive smart mobility innovations, new analysis methods and data sets, and case studies to inform both policy and practice
-co-creating and attracting support and investment in gender action plans and gender sensitive smart mobility innovations by working with different groups of women and local authorities to effect change within TInnGO cities and regional networks. TInnGO has been designed to have a wide range of impacts at local, national and EU level in relation to society, culture, economy, environment, people and knowledge, addressing issues of employment, education, R&I, women’s mobility and their experiences, entrepreneurship, “the transport culture”, design and future transport scenarios.

Interactions’ role is to evaluate the impact of these initiatives at the local level as well as overall project evaluation.
